The Northumbrian Word Project is currently working with several educators to develop a lesson plan for children in the 9-11 year old age group. The project is designed to help children understand the historical significance of the Northumbrian dialects. It is not the intention of the course to teach children how to speak in dialect but rather to explain the roots of the unique speech patterns prevalent in the region.

The lesson plan will incorporate elements of history, geography, English language and local studies.

Folders containing all necessary material for teachers and students will be made available free-of-charge to schools partaking in the programme.
